Give Thanks in All Circumstances. Really?!

The Word: 1 Thessalonians 5 – Give Thanks in All Circumstances. Really?!
1 Thess. 5:16-18, “Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing,
18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God
in Christ Jesus for you.” ESV
Excerpt from book, “The New Codependency” by Melody Beattie
Practice Gratitude
Expressing gratitude is a powerful practice.
It transforms (or helps neutralize) painful events. That doesn’t mean saying “thank you” only for receiving something good, although that’s part of it. This activity is about practicing gratitude for everything, as is. Some situations may be too much to express gratitude for or accept all at once (or maybe ever). But we can turn almost any experience around by practicing gratitude for what we experience or feel each moment, especially the moments we don’t like.
Giving thanks in all circumstances helps us understand that each moment is perfect as it is. Allow me to repeat that again. Giving thanks in all circumstances helps us understand that each moment is perfect as it is.
Awareness leads to acceptance
Acceptance takes us to surrender
Surrender brings power and peace.

Seven Things to Be Thankful For
- For automatic dishwashers. They make it possible to get out of the kitchen before the family comes back in for their after dinner snacks.
- For husbands who attack small repair jobs around the house. They usually make them big enough to call in the professionals.
- For the bathtub – the one place the family sometimes allows Mom some time to herself
- For children who put away their things and clean up after themselves. They’re such a joy you hate to see them go home to their own parents.
- For gardening. It’s a relief to deal with the dirt outside the house for a change.
- For teenagers. They give parents an opportunity to learn a second language.
- For smoke alarms. They let you know when the turkey is done!
